LA City Sports Final Four Predictions

L.A. City Section Football Final Four Predictions

LACitySports will be releasing this week's predictions one division at a time.
Division 1
#1 Narbonne vs. #4 Carson
Narbonne has Carson's number this year just like it has for the past two. Although, you never know what might happen when these two meet, Narbonne should pull off the win and move on to the Championship game.  The complete team effort this year has been a true testament of Coach Manuel Douglas' coaching skills. Narbonne 35 Carson 21

#2 Crenshaw vs. #3 Venice
What many are calling the Championship before the Championship should be a great game.  If you wanted to see Crenshaw face Venice well then you got what you asked for, Just try to ignore the fact that this game is in the semifinals.  There is a reason Crenshaw wanted to secure that #1 seed in the playoffs and that reason is Venice Football.  The Cougars know exactly how good the Gondos are and this will be the toughest challenge to date since Crenshaw's tough pre-season schedule.  Venice will not roll over and let the Cougars have their way but Crenshaw is on a mission to face Narbonne and reclaim the City Crown.  Very tough to pick but Crenshaw wins this one. Crenshaw 42 Venice 34

Division 2
#1 San Fernando vs. #12 Chatsworth
The upsets stop here. Cristian Solano is a great quarterback for San Fernando that makes all the right reads at the right time.  Chatsworth had an incredible run but do not have enough firepower to compete with the Tigers.  The Chancellors will not be able to stop Solano. San Fernando 42 Chatsworth 21

#2 Granada Hills vs. #6 South Gate
I really don't think the City Section fans believe in a team like South Gate.  They see this match-up as more of a formality from the eventual match-up between San Fernando and Granada Hills.  Well, lacitysports.com will call it first again, South Gate wins this match up behind the run game of Thompson and Flatos and advances to play San Fernando in the Championship. South Gate 35 Granada Hills 28

Division 3
#1 View Park vs. #5 Torres
View Park comes into this game with a perfect 11-0 record. Torres comes in with a very respectable 8-3 record.  Both teams have played a very challenging schedule all year long.  View Park choosing to play the likes of Verbum Dei, Hamilton and Morningside while Torres played Huntington Park, Monroe and Eagle Rock.  View Park would probably be a very competitive team at the Division 2 level with a one-two and three punch in the running game with Munive, Munoz and German.  View Park is just too good and will beat Torres in this game. View Park 34 Torres 20

#2 Poly vs. #3 Bernstein
These two teams met earlier in the year. Final score, Poly 26 Bernstein 13. So what has changed since that September 20th meeting? Well, a lot has changed. The Dragons ran off 8 wins in a row after that loss while the Poly Parrots dropped a couple of games and really have not been challenged since a 42-48 loss to Verdugo Hills.  Go back to that September 20th meeting and you can see how that outcome decided the home field advantage for this game.  If the Dragons would have won, they would be sitting at #2 and waiting for Poly to get off those buses.  You can't ask for a better story than that of the Bernstein Dragons. The first time they traveled to Poly, the Poly fans were more than likely asking each other, "Who is Bernstein?" and chances are, the fans still do not know who their semifinal opponent is and where exactly they are from. It is always tough to beat the same team twice in a year. Bernstein will prove that theory is correct on Friday. Bernstein 24 Poly 20

L.A. City Section Football Elite 8

L.A. City Section Football Elite 8

Great night of action all across the Los Angeles City Section. All of the #1 seeds took care of business in their opening game. Crenshaw scored 83 points! We had a huge upset in Division 2. Chatsworth, coming off their end of the season win against Granada Hills, goes into University and beats them by 18! Chatsworth is heating up at the right time. Eagle Rock had to come back in the 4th quarter to get past Hamilton and will now have to face a South Gate team that has a one-two punch with Lavell Thompson and Alex Flatos at running back. In Division 3, Frederick Douglas upset Contreras. Can't wait for next week's games!

What is LACitySports.com?

What is LACitySports.com?

LACitySports.com was created because of the lack of coverage there is for the Los Angeles City Section.  The site is dedicated to bringing fans of the LA City Section the latest news, breakout stars and great stories that our programs have to share. The site will continue to grow with the help of parents, coaches and players. The response to lacitysports.com has been overwhelmingly positive and we will continue our goal to provide an outlet for coaches, parents, players and fans to display their respective program on our site.

What Content is LACitySports.com Looking For?

We are looking for anything related to LA City athletics. From a coach who has been working hard for a long period of time to a team that has overcome obstacles and everything in between. We want this site to tell the stories of the great student athletes that participate in the L.A. City Section and work hard every single day.  If you feel it is worth getting someone recognized for their years of service and hard work then we will more than likely feature them on lacitysports.com.

What Does LACitySports.com Need?

LACitySports.com needs the people reading this to spread the word and let  fellow coaches, A.D's. Principals and parents know about the site. The more people know about the site, the more people will get a chance to read the great stories that our kids have throughout the entire city.  It will allow a kid from Woodland Hills read about a kid from East L.A. and maybe make a connection that they might not feel on the fields, courts or diamonds of the L.A. City Section.  Thank you for reading this and come back to visit us soon.

Narbonne Wins the Game of the Week 31-8 and is Seeded #1

The Forgotten Ones

There is no doubt what the game of the week is in L.A. City Section football this week, Carson vs. Narbonne. The two square off in a crucial game that will not only decide the Marine League Crown but will also have playoff seeding implications. Why are people counting both teams out for the running of City Section Champ? Everyone I talk to is saying that a Crenshaw vs. Venice championship is all but set and done. It seems people are forgetting about the Back-to-Back City Champions when 2013 title talks begin. If not for the Gauchos eliminating the Colts in the last two years, the Colts could have easily been in the Gauchos' shoes.

Title Contenders

Narbonne wants to remind everyone that the road to the championship runs through Harbor City. If the Gauchos beat the Colts they have a strong case to be seeded #1. They would be Defending Champs, League Champs, and undefeated in a very tough Marine League. If the Colts get the win, they can claim dominance over the toughest league in the City Section and also boast about a tough non-league schedule. There aren't any two hungrier teams in the City Section which is why Friday's game should be a great one. Carson looks to regain the title of City Football Powerhouse and Narbonne looks to keep it.

Key Players

The Colts have players that have been spectacular all season long. DaJuan Lee, Kelvin Sadberry, T. J. Flowers, T. J. Flowers, Manuopuava Tui-Enesi, Manoah Pearson, Juan 'Kiki' Flores, Leonel Barrios, Bobby Johnson and Don'Yeh Patterson who is being recruited by USC, Colorado State and several Ivy League schools will all play a big role in Friday's game. The Gauchos, however, surprisingly have no players that have been putting up numbers like in years past. It has truly been a complete team effort for Narbonne in the 2013 season.

Carson Key Players

#1 DaJuan Lee (5'8, 165) Sr. - Best all around athlete on the team. Two year varsity performer. Plays defensive back, wide receiver, running back and also excels as a punt/kick returner.
#2 Don'Yeh Patterson, (6'2, 195) Sr. - Plays safety and wide receiver. Has made huge plays in the passing game and is a great downfield blocker in the run game. He has several colleges recruiting him (USC, Colorado State and Ivy league schools).
#3 Kelvin Sadberry (6'4, 185) Sr. A two-way player that is tough to stop in the red-zone. His leaping ability makes tough for defenses to stop near the goal line.
#4 T. J. Flowers (6'0, 200) Sr. - A tough play-making linebacker who has a knack for always being around the ball. He leads the team in fumble recoveries for touchdowns.
#5 Jabari Minix (6'0, 155) Jr. - Plays both running back and wide receiver. He was recently named player of the game versus rival Banning after scoring 3 touchdowns.
#8 Manuopuava Tui-Enesi (6'0, 225) Jr. - A 2 year varsity performer. He plays defensive end and is involved in almost every play. He makes life miserable for opposing qb's.
#11 Manoah Pearson (6'1, 220) Sr.- 3 year varsity starter as a middle linebacker. Team Captain. 2 time all-league performer. Led the team in tackles the last two years.
#12 Juan 'Kiki' Flores (5'9, 170) Jr.- Has filled in nicely when starter Justin Collins went down, at Quarterback. He possess the skills to read and pick apart defenses. He was a standout on the junior varsity team last season.
#37 Leonel Barrios (5'9,190) Sr.- Special teams weapon as the team's kickoff specialist. His kickoffs have helped the defense by making the opposing offenses have to go 80 yards. Among the league leaders in touchbacks on kickoffs.
#75 Bobby Johnson (6'5, 275) Sr.- A three year varsity starter at left tackle. An all-league performer who has garnered numerous scholarship offers. Great run blocker with good feet.

Narbonne Key Players

#1 Eban Jackson (6'3, 185) Sr. 976 Passing Yards, 8 TD's
# 6 Johnell Jackson (6'0, 180) Sr. 627 Rushing Yards, 7 TD's
#7 Uchenna Nwosu (6'3, 190) Sr. 52 Tackles, 2 Int's
#9 Dallas Lopez (6'5, 185) Sr. 319 Receiving Yards, 4 TD's
#21 Khalil Rashad-Brown 6'0, 190) Sr. 43 Tackles, 2 Int's

TyJon Delancy, Garfield Bulldogs (Los Angeles, CA.)

Garfield Football is Ready for the Big Stage
It’s going to happen. It’s only a matter of time before Garfield Football (East Los Angeles, CA.) gets over that Division 1 hump.  Let me give you a list of Garfield opponents in the last 4 years, Edison, St. Bonaventure, Dorsey, Bishop Amat, St. Paul, Orange Lutheran and Colony.  The Bulldogs from East L.A. do not back down from anyone and the tough schedule has paid off in Eastern League dominance but now the Bulldogs are looking for the hard work and strength of schedule to pay off in the playoffs.

TyJon Delancy
A big reason for Garfield’s success is senior running back TyJon Delancy.  Delancy’s 2013 stats stand at 1,317 Rushing Yards on 189 carries with one game left in league. He has 17 Rushing TD’s and again these stats not only come against Eastern League opponents but also the Bulldogs’ non-league match-ups.  He scored a season high 6 TD’s against a very much improved South Gate team this year and is averaging 146 yards a game.  On Friday night, Delancy finished with 127 yards on the ground in the East L.A. Classic as Garfield took care of Roosevelt 22-6
Playoff Run
TyJon will have to carry the Bulldogs into a Division 1 playoff run.  Last year the Bulldogs beat Taft in the first round but then ran into the eventual City Champions, the Narbone Gauchos.  The work has been put in, the Bulldogs do not dodge anyone when scheduling games, the players work hard on and off the field, now it is time for a team that plays east of the 110 freeway to shake up the City Section Division 1 Football World.
